GENERAL FAQ

WHAT IS PERMANENT / semi-permanent MAKEUP?

“Permanent” makeup or PMU, is a form of cosmetic tattoo that is SEMI-PERMANENT and lasts up to about 1-3 years. This allows not only the design and color to look as natural as possible but the client to have the flexibility to change the design as face structures and/or trends change.

The names are interchangeable in recent years as “permanent” forms of makeup are not practiced by many technicians due to undesirable results, though they may last a long time.

IS SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP FOR ME?

Our clientele has wide range of ethnicities, gender and age that come in for various reasons but all enjoy the convenience of semi-permanent tattoo. Our clients take advantage of saving time during makeup application or simply looking flawless anytime anywhere. If you believe you can enjoy these perks semi-permanent tattoo is right for you!

Please visit the applicable FAQ page of the service you are interested in for more details on who are good and less than ideal candidates!

What is Microblading?

Microblading is currently the hottest trending form of semi-permanent tattoo where the licensed artist uses a single use disposable needle to tattoo each individual stroke by hand.  The carefully drawn series of fine lines simulate hyper-realistic eyebrow hairs.

How long does IT last?

It lasts about 6 months - 3 years depending on the individual’s skin type, lifestyle, and procedure.

1.5 - 2 years on average

How long is the entire procedure?

The entire process which includes numbing, consultation and tattooing, takes around 1.5-2 hours depending on the procedure being received.

Please visit the FAQ of applicable service for a rundown of what to expect during your appointment!

Will I look normal after MY PROCEDURE?

It may look a little darker or swollen for the first day or two depending on the person, but most clients are able to go back to their daily activities right after the procedure.

Your new color will look darker and more defined for the first 7-10 days. It will get lighter at the end of the week as your eyebrows heal and scabs (if any) fall off. In 4-7 days they start to shrink depending on the person and their skin type. See below in Aftercare for more details.

Although the healing process takes 7-10 days, we recommend giving it a full month for you to fully heal and get settled in.

Is permanent makeup safe?

Following strict safety and sanitation standards, we pride ourselves in making your visit as safe and comfortable as possible! All of our procedural equipment is sterilized or single-use and disposable.

Our pigments used to create your custom semi-permanent makeup are hand-picked by our technician and made from the highest quality organic ingredients.

Will it damage my hair?

Not at all! Semi-permanent makeup is placed on the outer most layer of your skin. Regular tattoos penetrate your epidermis, which is beneath the outer most layer of your skin. Your hair follicle is even deeper in the dermis and is not affected by these procedures.

Is it painful?

It depends on the client, but most of our clients experience little to no pain as we apply a gentle but effective topical anesthetic. Because it is a cosmetic tattoo, some individuals will experience some pain or discomfort, but we take many precautions in order to ensure the comfort of our clients!

Is a touch up included in the price?

Yes, it is a completely optional and complimentary service we provide for our clients. If you need additional touch ups after this service, a fee is charged. Everyone heals differently and is unpredictable. While we disclose all potential issues as best as we can, we are not responsible for your outcome as it heavily relies on following proper preparation/aftercare and your skin. This touch up typically takes 1-1.5 hours.

Because our technician has over 20 years of experience, most of our clients are satisified with their results after just one session. Most of our clients do not take advantage of our complimentary service, but it is there for those who would like to! Gratuities are appreciated for this service.

See our Terms + Policy FAQ for more information on Complimentary Services.

A complimentary touch up is not included for those who choose to take advantage of our 6-month special rate.

PREPARATIONS

The different preparations depend on the type of procedure being received. Please refer to the FAQ under applicable procedure.

AFTERCARE

The different aftercare instructions depend on the type of procedure received. Please refer to the FAQ under applicable procedure.

For the first 24 - 48 hours

  • First 24-48 hours (depending on which procedure) no water on area of procedure.

  • Must wash with water after 24 hours to avoid infection including old ointment before applying new ointment if you received any for your procedure.

    For 7-10 days

  • Depending on your procedure, we provide an ointment for our clients to take home and apply for 1 week.

  • It is crucial to keep any products, including but not limited to: makeup, soap, lotions, sunscreen, etc., away from the procedural area and to refrain from harsh activities such as swimming, sauna and heavy sweating for 7-10 days. Once it heals it helps to be gentle with the cosmetic tattoo when cleansing.

    • No excessive sweating, swimming, sauna, heavy exercise, and outdoor hiking or activities in direct sunlight (outside of just casual walking to and from places) for 7-10 days.

  • Must continue to wash with only water to avoid infection, including old ointment before applying new ointment for 7-10 days.

  • Avoid chemical products for 1 week.

  • No scrubbing the area of procedure, scabbing is normal.

  • For lasting results, avoid chemical and brightening products such as AHA’s, BHA’s, retinoids, etc. in the area in which you received treatment.

RECOVERY

No down time

Although slight swelling and redness may occur depending on the person. However it will take 7-10 days to heal: depending on the service and person you may want to take time off if you are uncomfortable walking about with your unhealed brows. Most people resume normal activities with no problem!

Can I wear makeup?

We prefer you come in with a bare face, but we will clean and prepare the area of procedure regardless!

Will I be able to tell the technician what I want?

Specializing in custom, natural makeup, you will be able to discuss your goals with our technician during your consultation. We make sure to consult with our clients to ensure satisfactory results before proceeding with the cosmetic tattoo.

You will draw your eyebrows during your consultation first, as often times explaining with words is unhelpful and different compared to what we can visually see. For example, your “arched” and “thick” may mean something different compared to what we perceive as “arched” and “thick.” It eases our consultation process and allows us to take all of your preferences in to account, which lets us provide the best brows for you!

Clients are more than welcome to bring any photo examples as well. The more you know what you’re looking for, the better your brows will turn out!

Please visit the FAQ of applicable service for more details on your appointment process.

pre-existing tattoos

I have a previous tattoo / would like to cover up. What are my options?

We specialize in fixing less than desirable results from previous work! It is possible to get microblading/semi-permanent makeup over preexisting tattoos. However, the result can depend on the current state and thus requires a more in depth consultation with our technician. Please read our Microblading FAQ for more details.

Good candidates

We are very selective with whom we pick for those with previous tattoos. If you have lower expectations and wish to improve the area, we can fix it for you. If you’re expecting a complete difference then we will be unable to accept you. Although we can make it better than how It currently may be, we cannot completely transform them as if they were a blank canvas.

  1. Laser removal, wait 3 months

  2. If it is dark, we can offer a neutralizing service. We can make it better depending on the client and their condition, but we can not change/make the shape completely disappear. We can only treat the affected area. Then, we will go back on top with microblading + embroidery combination tattoo for your new shape (for eyebrows)

    • Neutralizing service we cannot change the shape, but we can soften your current color

  3. If it is light/faded we can cover it up as long as we use a darker color. The color will look darker, must use combo technique

We cannot stress how important it is to choose your technician wisely. We know how tempting discounts and deals can be… Remember, you are not paying for the procedure, you are paying for the years of experience of the technician who is giving you the procedure!

MEDICAL + SKIN CONDITIONS

You should take precautions and get a notice from your doctor/ health provider if you have any medical history or skin conditions on the procedural area. We have the right to refuse clients. We are not responsible for any risks, even if you disclose them to us. Please contact us for a private consultation to see if you are a good candidate!

Blood-thinning medication
It is possible to still receive semi-permanent tattoos while taking blood-thinning medication. However this may affect the outcome and the client should let the technician know prior to the procedure.

Scar tissue

Almost everyone has scar tissue. Most people don’t even notice it, especially if you’ve never had semi-permanent makeup done before.

Because your natural hair is much lighter than the definition you get with cosmetic tattoos, scar tissue can suddenly seem to become more noticeable as “bald spots” and “sparse areas” post procedure as you heal and the pigment lightens. Although it may look great on the first day, when pigment starts to fade on the area in which you received the procedure, it will fade there faster.

You may have to come in more often for a touch up to address these issues! Although the pigment will show less, it is better than the space being white/empty because of scar tissue.

We have special rates for clients who return within 6 months for this reason:

  • Microblading & Embroidery Combo both : $250

  • Basic Eyeliner & Design Eyeliner both: $250

  • Hairline: $400

WHO IS INELIGIBLE?

Pregnant/Nursing
While your doctor/health care provider may say it’s okay to receive semi-permanent makeup while nursing or pregnant, we highly advise against it. The topical anesthetic could directly affect your hormones and your baby. This is a moral choice we stand by here at Hera PMU for you and your baby’s protection.

Under 18

The legal age to receive any sort of tattoo is illegal for those under 18 years of age.
